Education and Outreach:

A 1 hour presentation and discussion on the importance of early Prostate Cancer screening by having an annual Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) test annually once you reach the age of 40, earlier if there is a family history of Prostate Cancer.

This presentation is an overview of Prostate Cancer (including symptoms) and some of the most common treatments for Prostate Cancer.

These presentations will be presented to local groups; such as church groups, clubs, organizations, community agencies and local health fairs.

Nutrition Classes and other positive health classes:

Discuss the role of diet and nutrition as it pertains to Prostate Cancer and living cancer-free. We will bring in specialists who will discuss the importance of nutrition and offer some alternative diets to the traditional American/Western diet. We will also offer classes in yoga, meditation and other “alternative” health classes to promote positive attitudes and well-being.

Group Therapy:

Offer group therapy sessions during the day, as well as the evening. Most Prostate Cancer support groups are held during the day, thus leaving out a large number of men who are unable to attend to due the time. Also, there are very few groups for families of prostate cancer patients. We will offer groups for families, as well as special groups for spouses.

Resource Center:

When a man is diagnosed with Prostate Cancer, they will be referred to us as a place that provides medically accurate information on Prostate Cancer and Treatment. We will also provide referrals to other organizations as necessary. All of our information will be up to date and provide patients and their family and friends with the information needed to make the most appropriate decision for the patient. We will also provide websites with further information, as well providing a list of men who are willing to be contacted by new diagnosed patients to discuss their concerns and talk to.

Cancer Coach Program:

This will be a list of men who have agreed to be Cancer Coaches to men going through treatment. The contact will be between patient and survivor. The purpose is to link a man who is having treatment with someone who has previously gone through the treatment. If a man is having radiation, the he would link up with a man who has had radiation treatment. The “survivor” will be able to “coach” the patient through treatment, discuss side-effects and a shoulder to lean on if need be. This program is intended to help men going through treatment to talk about it with someone who has already had that treatment and can discuss concerns, side-effects and generally feeling about that treatment.

Individual Therapy:

A cancer diagnosis can be devastating to both patients as well as their families. PSA is therefore committed to helping both patients and their families in coping with this disease by offering Mental Health Therapy to men and their families. The therapy will be provided by licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Interns or Licensed Clinical Social Worker Interns and under the supervision of a licensed Mental Health Professional.
